Undercut in Mississauga: Getting One Cut, Kept Sharp or Changed

Measure your top before you book

The most useful thing you can tell us is how long the top is right now, because it decides which undercut is realistic today. You do not need a ruler: pull the longest piece at the front straight down over your face and see where it lands.

• Reaches your eyebrows: enough for a short undercut worn loose or pushed to one side.

Which of our barbers to book for an undercut

Book Mark Yousif if you want the closest, starkest sides, and Marcel Shabo if there is a chance you will soften the cut into a taper or drop fade later. Mark leans toward skin fades and razor lineups, which suits an undercut taken to bare skin with a razor-clean edge at the nape.

Marcel leans toward low and mid tapers and drop fades, so he is a natural choice if you want a guard length underneath and an easy path toward a blended cut down the line. Both of them cut undercuts regularly, and both check the line from behind with a hand mirror before you leave.

Moving from a fade into an undercut

Most people asking for their first undercut are currently wearing a fade, and the fade itself is not the problem: the top usually is. A disconnection only looks right when the long hair can fall over the line, so a top of 4 or 5 cm is not ready yet.

While the top grows, keep booking your normal cut but ask us to leave the top alone and hold the sides at one length rather than fading them. After a couple of months the sides are already at undercut length, and the day the top covers them we simply clip the line in. What you will see in the chair

Expect to spend part of the cut with the top clipped up out of the way, which looks strange in the mirror but lets us see exactly where the line sits. Before any clipper touches the sides, we show you the planned height and adjust it if you want it lower or higher.

Once the sides are done, the top comes down and is cut with scissors. The free hair wash comes next, and it is useful here: seeing the long hair fall wet over the short sides shows you how the disconnection behaves on a day you do not style it. We finish with the hot towel, the head massage and a razor lineup around the ears.

Keeping the disconnection clean between visits

Rebook every two to three weeks, and if the top does not need touching, tell us it is a sides-and-lineup visit. It books as the same Haircut Only appointment on Booksy; we simply leave the long hair alone.

In an Ontario January, some clients let the sides go a guard longer for a bit of warmth under a toque, for example a No. 3 instead of a No. 1, then drop back down in spring.
