Two barbers, two takes on the comb over fade

Both barbers cut comb over fades, but their leanings point to slightly different results, so it is worth picking on purpose. Neither is better; they just finish differently.

Mark Yousif's work leans toward skin fades and slick backs, so he suits a high-contrast fade under a polished, shiny sweep. Marcel Shabo leans toward drop fades, texture and detailing, which suits a fade that curves behind the ear and a looser, matte top. Coming from a shorter cut? Start the fade now

If your top is not long enough to sweep yet, book anyway and start the fade while the top grows. We keep the sides clean and leave the top alone, so you look finished at every stage instead of waiting months with a shapeless head.

What to bring and say on the day

A comb over fade is cut around the way you style it, so the more we know about your routine, the better it sits. Useful things to mention:

• Whether you blow-dry. The top is cut slightly differently if you air dry.
• Shine or matte: the product you use changes how heavy we leave the front.

Timing your visits: fade first, top second

Book a comb over fade every two to three weeks, because the fade under it shows growth long before the top does. The swept top can usually go four to six weeks before it needs reshaping, so every second visit can be a lighter one on top.

Pick a regular time and book it in Booksy before you leave. We are open until 9 PM every day, including Sunday, so after-work and weekend-evening slots are normal here, and same-day openings come up often if you miss one.

Holding the sweep through a Mississauga year

The sweep is most at risk from humidity in summer and from toques in winter. Both are easy to handle once you know what to expect.

On humid days a water-based pomade can go soft by the afternoon; a matte clay or a little texture powder at the roots holds the lift better. In winter, style it as usual and carry a small comb: after the toque comes off, a quick pass in the direction of the sweep and a touch of fresh product brings it back. If it rains on the walk across Heartland's parking lots, let it dry and comb it back into place rather than adding more product.
