Lunar New Year haircut in Mississauga: get cut before February 6, 2027

Short answer: Yes, we cut for Lunar New Year at our studio inside Heartland Town Centre. In 2027 the new year falls on Saturday, February 6, and many families follow the custom of a fresh haircut before it begins, so book on Booksy by mid-January and aim for a cut from Tuesday, February 2 to Thursday, February 4. That leaves the cut settled for the first day of visits and photos.

Why the haircut comes before the new year

In many families that celebrate Lunar New Year, a haircut is part of getting ready: you clear out the old year and start the new one looking fresh. Some also prefer not to cut hair in the first days of the new year, so the cut before it has to last a little longer than usual.

Customs vary between families and communities, so follow what yours does. From our side, it simply means planning a cut that looks sharp on February 6 and still looks tidy a couple of weeks later.

Booking around a Saturday new year

With the new year on a Saturday, the Friday before it is the day most people try for, and it fills first. A cut on Tuesday, February 2 to Thursday, February 4 is easier to get and gives the fade a couple of days to soften before the celebrations.

We are open until 9 PM every day, so a weeknight after work is realistic even in a busy week. Book by mid-January, and if you need to move your slot, change it in Booksy or call or text (647) 221-9795 as early as possible.

A cut that lasts through the first weeks

If you plan to hold off on your next cut until well into February, ask your barber to build in some grow-out. That changes a few choices in the chair.

  • Start the fade a little lower, or choose a low taper, so the regrowth stays neat for longer.
  • Leave a touch more length on the sides of a two-block or crop, so it does not stick out as it grows.
  • Keep weight on top rather than thinning it heavily, so the shape holds on day fourteen as well as day one.
  • Ask for a softer neckline taper, which grows out more gracefully than a squared edge.

Styles that suit a long day of visiting

The first days of the new year often mean moving between homes, restaurants and family gatherings, with a lot of photos along the way. Low-maintenance shapes that look good straight from a toque are the practical choice in February.

Marcel Shabo leans toward texture on top, drop fades and tapers, a good fit for a two-block haircut, a textured crop or a curtain style. Mark Yousif leans toward skin fades and slick backs, a good fit for a sharper, more formal look. Both cut every style, so pick on the finish you want.

Winter details for a February cut

Early February in Mississauga usually means cold, dry air and a toque most days. Tell your barber you wear one, and we will avoid leaving length that folds awkwardly under it.

Dry indoor heat also makes straight, fine hair more prone to static, so a light cream often works better than a strong gel. If you wear a beard, book Haircut + Beard, since beard edges tend to look sharper with a fresh lineup at the same visit.

Lunar New Year haircut in Mississauga: common questions

Can I book my whole family's cuts before the new year?

Yes, for adults and teens. Each person books his own slot on Booksy, or text us the names and the evening you want and we will line them up.

Is it too late to book the week of February 6?

Not always. Check Booksy for same-day openings and call or text us, but the Friday before is the hardest day to get.

Do you cut thick, straight hair?

Yes. Our page on a barber for thick hair in Mississauga explains how we take out bulk without losing shape.

Should I change my style for the new year?

If you want a change, try it in early January so you have a few weeks to get used to it, then refresh it before February 6.
