Graduation haircut in Mississauga: timing for cap, gown and convocation
Short answer: Yes, we cut graduates at our Heartland Town Centre studio, whether it is a Peel high school commencement in the last week of June or a U of T Mississauga convocation. Book as soon as the ceremony date is confirmed and come in two to five days before. Tell your barber you will be wearing a cap, because a mortarboard changes how much length should stay on top.

Which graduation are you booking for?
Graduation season in Mississauga is really two seasons. High school commencements cluster in late June, while university ceremonies have their own calendar, including a fall round. The booking pressure is different for each, so start by placing your ceremony in the table below.
| Ceremony | When | When to book the cut |
|---|---|---|
| Peel high school commencement | Last week of June | Early June, for a slot 2 to 5 days before |
| U of T Mississauga fall convocation | Oct 26 to 30, 2026 | Early October, for the week of your ceremony |
| School grad photo day | Set by your school | Treat it as its own event and book separately |
How a mortarboard changes the cut
A graduation cap sits flat across the forehead and presses down on the top of the head, so it hides some parts of your cut and flattens others. The sides, the temples and the back of the neck stay in full view in every photo, which is why the lineup and the fade matter more than the top.
Very long or voluminous tops get crushed and can poke out at odd angles from under the brim. A little less length on top, or a style that lies forward, usually survives the cap better. Curly tops often look best with the curls defined and kept compact.
- Ask for a clean temple and sideburn line, since the cap brim frames it.
- Keep the fade or taper blended high enough to look tidy below the cap edge.
- Carry a small comb for photos after the cap comes off and gets thrown.
Grad photos and the ceremony are separate appointments
Many high schools take grad portraits months before the June ceremony, so one cut will not cover both. Book a cut for photo day and another for commencement, and treat each as its own event.
The same logic applies to university graduates who book a portrait session with a photographer off campus. Our haircut for headshots guide covers what reads on camera if you are planning formal portraits.
Booking around family and the ceremony week
Convocation week often brings relatives from out of town, dinners and a lot of driving. Book your cut early in the week so it does not compete with family plans on the day before. Our hours run until 9 PM every day, so an evening appointment after classes or work leaves the daytime free.
Dads and brothers often want a cut before the ceremony too. They can book the slots next to yours on Booksy, or call or text (647) 221-9795 and we will line them up in a row.
Choosing between Mark and Marcel for grad
Mark Yousif leans toward skin fades and razor lineups, a good fit if you want the sides very sharp under the cap. Marcel Shabo leans toward low and mid tapers and detailing, a good fit for a softer, more conservative look that will also carry you into job interviews after graduation.
If you also have a prom a few weeks earlier, our prom haircut in Mississauga page explains how to split the two visits.
Graduation haircut in Mississauga: common questions
Will the cap leave a dent in my hair?
It can press a line into a longer top, especially if you used a heavy product. A lighter, matte product and a slightly shorter top reduce the dent.
Should I keep my beard for convocation photos?
Keep whatever you normally wear. Book Haircut + Beard so the beard edges match the fade, or add a quick beard lineup the day before if the cut was earlier.
Can a parent book a graduation cut for their son?
Yes. Book on Booksy under his name, or call or text us with the ceremony date and the style he wants.
Is a skin fade too harsh for graduation photos?
Not if it has two or three days to settle. If you prefer less contrast, ask for a low taper instead.
