Flat Top Haircut in Mississauga: How to Book a Level Top at Markcutit

Short answer: Yes, Markcutit cuts flat tops at our studio inside Heartland Town Centre. Book Haircut Only on Booksy and write "flat top" in the note, because a level top takes more care than an ordinary fade. Pick Mark Yousif for skin-faded sides or Marcel Shabo for a tapered version, and bring a reference photo of the era you are after.

Why the booking note matters for a flat top

Write "flat top" in your Booksy note, because it tells your barber to plan for a cut that is slower and more exacting than a standard fade. Levelling a top across a head that is not flat takes repeated checking from the front, side and back.

The cut is booked as Haircut Only, and the faded version runs through our skin fades service. For the technique, the hair it needs and the history, see our flat top guide.

Mark or Marcel? Choose by the sides

Both barbers cut flat tops, so let the sides decide. The platform on top is levelled the same way either way; the character of the cut comes from what sits under it.

If you want a modern flat top over a skin fade with sharp corners, Mark Yousif's skin-fade and razor-lineup focus suits it. If you want the older, softer look with tapered sides, Marcel Shabo leans toward tapers and fine detailing, which also helps with squaring the corners cleanly.

Bring a photo of the era you want

Flat tops come in a few distinct looks, and a photo tells us which one you mean far faster than words. These are the three main looks:

  • 1950s classic: a short platform, around 2.5 cm, over short tapered sides. Clean and conservative.
  • Late 1980s and 1990s: taller, sharper, often on coily hair with a bold fade. If you want real height, look at our high top fade page as well.
  • Modern: a medium platform over a mid or high skin fade with crisp corners and a razor lineup.

How to arrive for the cut

Arrive with clean, dry hair that is not flattened. A hat or hood on the way in presses the top down and hides how high your hair actually stands, so carry it rather than wear it for the last few minutes if you can.

Tell us if your hair has been cut recently somewhere else, and how long it has been. A flat top needs enough length on top to level, and if a previous cut left the crown shorter than the front, we may need a visit or two to get it truly flat. We will be honest about that at the consultation rather than force it.

Rebook before the level wears off

Book your next flat top two to three weeks out, because the top grows at slightly different rates across the head and loses its platform faster than most cuts lose their shape. Book it before you leave the chair.

Our hours make a regular slot easy: we are open until 9 PM every day, including Sunday. If you live in Hurontario or East Credit, the studio is on Matheson Blvd W just off Mavis Rd, so it is a short drive rather than a trip. You can browse finished cuts in the portfolio before you come in.

Flat tops and Mississauga weather

A flat top holds best in dry, cold air and has the hardest time in summer humidity. On sticky July days, coarse straight hair can soften and lean, so a firmer matte product at the roots helps.

Winter is the opposite problem: a tight toque presses the platform down. A looser hat, or a quick pick or brush upward when you take it off, brings it back.

Flat top haircut in Mississauga: common questions

Can you fix a flat top that has gone rounded?

Usually, if there is enough length left to level it again. If the top is too short in places, we will level what we can and plan the next visit to finish it.

Can I get a flat top with a beard?

Yes. Book Haircut + Beard so the fade on the sides and the beard are blended together in one visit.

Is a flat top a good first visit with a new barber?

It is a fair test of any barber. Bring a reference photo and your hair unflattened, and we will tell you at the consultation what height your hair can realistically hold.
