Curly hair barber in Mississauga: a cut that keeps your curls

Short answer: Yes. At Markcutit, inside Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga, both barbers cut curly hair dry, keep enough length on top for the curl to turn, and set the fade low so it tucks under the curls. Book Haircut Only on Booksy with Mark or Marcel, or call or text (647) 221-9795. Come in with your curls worn the way you normally wear them, so we can see how they actually sit.

Can a Mississauga barbershop cut curls without flattening them?

It can, as long as the barber treats the top as scissor work on dry hair and the sides as a separate clipper job. That split is how we approach every curly head at Markcutit, whether you want a tight fade under a short curly crop or a soft taper under a longer mop.

The theory behind it, including shrinkage by curl pattern and how much length each type needs, lives in our guide to haircuts for curly hair. This page is about the practical side: who to book at Heartland, what the appointment involves and how often to come back.

What happens in a curly appointment at Markcutit

A curly cut here follows the same order every time, but each stage is adjusted for how your pattern behaves on the day.

  1. Consultation with your hair dry: we find where the curl is tightest, where it loosens, and whether the crown sits flatter than the front.
  2. Clipper work on the sides and back, with the fade line placed under the widest part of the curls rather than above it.
  3. Scissor shaping on the top, curl clump by curl clump, taking length only where a curl sticks out of the silhouette.
  4. A razor-clean lineup at the forehead, temples and neck, following your own hairline.
  5. The finish: a hair wash, hot towel and head massage, all included, then styling with a curl cream so you leave with defined curls rather than a wet tangle.

Mark or Marcel for curly hair?

Both barbers cut curls, and both do every service on the menu, so the choice comes down to what sits under your curls. Marcel Shabo leans toward low and mid tapers, drop fades and texture on top, which is the most common pairing for a curly head that wants a softer edge.

Mark Yousif, the founder, leans toward skin fades and blending a fade into a beard. If you want high contrast under the curls, or you wear a full beard that has to connect to the sides, he is a natural fit. Booksy shows each barber's open times, so pick the person first and the slot second if the style matters more than the day. Our curly fade page for Mississauga covers booking that specific cut.

What to bring and what to tell us

Curly cuts go best when we see the hair in its real state and hear how you live with it. A few things make the consultation faster.

  • Hair washed a day or two before, with your normal cream or none at all. Avoid slicking it down with gel on the way in.
  • A photo of the shape you want once dry, ideally someone with a similar curl pattern.
  • How you dry it: air-dry, diffuser, or a towel and go.
  • Any past cut that went wrong, for example a top thinned into frizz or a fade taken too high.
  • Whether you plan to grow it longer over the next few months, so we leave extra at the crown.

Curly cuts you can see in our portfolio

Our portfolio of real client cuts includes curly heads, such as a curly top over a mid skin fade and a curly crop paired with a fade and full beard, alongside coily and straight hair. They are useful reference points for how short the sides go and how much curl stays on top.

Screenshots from the portfolio are fine to bring as your reference photo. Say which part you like, the sides, the top or the beard, because curls rarely copy one-for-one from one head to another.

How often curly clients come back to Heartland

Plan on refreshing the sides every two to three weeks and reshaping the curls roughly every five to six. The fade loses its edge first, while a good curly top can hold its outline for a month or more.

Seasons shift that rhythm a little. Summer humidity makes curls swell, so some clients keep the top slightly shorter from June to August, while winter toques flatten the crown and a touch more length there helps it recover. We are open until 9 PM every day, including Sunday, which makes an after-work or weekend refresh easy to fit in.

Curly hair barber in Mississauga: common questions

Is a curly cut booked differently from a regular haircut?

No. Curly cuts are booked as Haircut Only on Booksy like any other style, and the price is shown there. If you also want your beard shaped, choose Haircut + Beard.

Can I get just the sides tidied and leave my curls alone?

Yes. Tell us at the start that the top stays as it is and we will clean the fade, neckline and lineup only. It is still booked as Haircut Only.

Will you put product in my curls at the end?

Usually a light curl cream after the wash, so you see the curls defined. If you would rather leave with nothing in, say so and we will skip it.

My curls are tighter at the back than the front. Is that a problem?

Not at all; it is very common. We leave the tighter areas slightly longer so everything looks even once it dries and shrinks.
