Curly Crop, Fade and Full Beard: What This Result Shows

Short answer: This result is a short curly crop over a skin fade that wraps around the ear and leaves length at the nape, finished with a full beard blended up into the sideburn. The fade opens the temple and ear without shaving off the back, so the cut keeps weight and softness behind. It suits tight to medium curls and men who want a strong beard with a haircut that still looks full.

The details visible in this left profile

The curls on top are dense and cropped to an even, short length, sitting close to the head with a slightly rounded shape. The front hairline is cleaned into a defined temple corner, and the hair is not pushed in any one direction.

Around the ear the hair is taken down to skin, and the fade curves in a half circle over and behind the ear. Behind that curve the hair is left long and dark down to the neck, rather than faded out. This is the shape barbers usually call a burst fade.

How the beard connects to the haircut

The beard is full, with the most length on the chin and jaw, and it fades out as it climbs the sideburn until it meets bare skin beside the ear. That fade in the beard mirrors the fade in the hair, so there is no hard step between them.

The cheek line is clean and sits at a natural height, and the moustache blends into the beard at the corners of the mouth. Our beard fade guide explains how that sideburn blend is cut.

Why keep length at the back of a curly fade?

Leaving length at the back keeps a curly cut from looking severe. Curls that are faded all the way round can make the head look small and the neck look long; a burst shape keeps some of that softness while the ear and temple stay sharp.

It also grows out more gracefully. The long back hides growth at the nape, so only the area around the ear needs tidying between full cuts. For the full comparison, see our burst fade guide.

How this kind of cut is put together

We start with the curls dry so we can see their true height, then plan the curve of the fade around the ear before any hair comes off.

  1. Mark a curved guideline from the temple, over the ear and down behind it.
  2. Take the area inside the curve to skin and blend outward.
  3. Leave the nape at the length of the back, only cleaning the outline.
  4. Crop the curls on top evenly with scissors or clipper-over-comb.
  5. Fade the beard up through the sideburn to meet the haircut, then line the cheek and neck.

Upkeep and who it suits

Plan on returning every 2 to 3 weeks for the fade and beard lines; the curl crop itself can stretch to 4 to 5 weeks. A leave-in conditioner keeps dense curls soft, and beard oil helps the chin length lie flat.

It suits dense, curly or coily hair and a beard that grows evenly along the jaw. If your beard is patchy at the cheek, keep the beard shorter so the sideburn fade can still blend.

Curly crop, fade and full beard: common questions

Is this a burst fade or a taper?

The shape around the ear is a burst fade: it goes to skin and curves over the ear, whereas a taper only shortens the sideburn and neckline.

Can I book this in Mississauga?

Yes. Choose Haircut + Beard on Booksy; the burst fade page for Mississauga covers booking and rebooking for that shape.

Will the back look like a mullet?

Not at this length. The back is only as long as the top, so it reads as a full, rounded back rather than a mullet.
