Booking a high and tight at our Heartland studio
A high and tight is booked as Haircut Only, the menu item that covers every fade, taper and scissor style, and it runs through our skin fades service. If you wear a beard and want it shaped in the same sitting, choose Haircut + Beard instead.
Mark Yousif, our founder, is the barber to pick for bare sides and a hard, clean ridge line. Marcel Shabo cuts it too and is a good choice if you want the blend slightly softer, closer to a very high taper. Name the version in your booking note
Telling us which version you want before the appointment saves the first few minutes of the consultation. Three words in the Booksy note are enough:
- "Blended": the modern barbershop version, sides faded up to the ridge with no visible step. It is the easiest version to grow out.
- "Stepped": the traditional look, with a clear line where the short sides meet the top strip.
- "Recon": the most extreme, bare sides and a small patch on top. We take the sides to skin with clippers; we do not offer a straight-razor head shave.
Cutting to a uniform or grooming standard
If your job, team or application has a written hair standard, bring it, a photo of the page is fine, and we will cut to it. Standards differ on details such as how far above the collar the hair must sit, whether the ears must be clear and the maximum length on top, and guessing wastes the visit.

What happens in the chair
Most of a high and tight appointment is spent on the sides, not the top. The order we follow makes sure the ridge line stays level all the way around the head.
- We feel along the upper sides for bumps or scars, since the skin there will be on show.
- The ridge line is marked all the way round, then the sides and back are taken down to skin or your chosen guard, such as a 0.5 or a No. 1.
- The top is cut to its short, even length, for example a No. 3 or No. 4, and checked flat from the side.
- The transition is blended or left stepped, as you asked, and the edges are cleaned with a razor.
- Hot towel, hair wash and head massage, included with every service.
Book the next one before you leave
A high and tight looks sharp for about a week, so the easiest way to keep it is a standing booking every one to two weeks. The sides regrow first, and even a few millimetres of stubble softens the contrast with the top.

What guard do you use on the sides?
Skin, a 0.5 or a No. 1 are the usual choices. Tell us how bare you want it and we will show you in the mirror after the first pass.
Can I combine a high and tight with a beard?
