Haircut before a trip from Pearson: timing your cut before you fly

Short answer: Get your haircut two to five days before you fly, and pick a cut that will still look tidy after however long you are away. Our studio inside Heartland Town Centre is about 13 km from Pearson, roughly a 17-minute drive outside rush hour, and we are open until 9 PM every day, so an evening cut in the days before departure is easy to fit in. Book on Booksy or call or text (647) 221-9795.

The best days to get cut before a flight

Two to five days before departure is the right window for most people. The cut has settled by the time you land, and you are not stuck with a raw lineup in your first holiday photos. A cut the day before is fine for a taper or a longer style, but a close skin fade looks better with a couple of days behind it.

Because the studio is only about 13 km from Pearson, roughly 17 minutes' drive when traffic is light, an evening cut the night before a late flight is realistic. Rush hour on Hwy 401, which runs just north of Heartland, can add a lot of time, so do not cut it close on the way to the airport.

Match the cut to how long you are away

The longer the trip, the more the cut needs to grow out gracefully, because there may not be a barber you trust at your destination. Tell us how long you will be gone, and we will adjust.

Trip lengthWhat to ask forWhy
Under a weekYour usual cut, even a skin fadeIt will still look fresh when you come home
One to three weeksA low taper or a lower fadeRegrowth blends in instead of showing a line
A month or moreA scissor-cut top with a soft taperIt grows into a longer shape rather than out of one

Heading somewhere hot: what to change

Sun, heat and pools change what works. Scalp that has been under hair all winter burns quickly once a fade exposes it, so a very high skin fade right before a beach week is worth rethinking, or at least pairing with sunscreen on the sides.

Humidity makes wavy and curly hair expand, and chlorine and salt water dry hair out. A shorter, low-product style is usually easier than one that relies on blow-drying and pomade.

  • Pack a small travel-size tube of the product you already use.
  • Rinse after the pool; see our guide on how to protect hair from chlorine.
  • Leave a little more length on top if you will wear a cap all day in the sun.

Beard plans for time away

Decide before you go whether you will maintain the beard on the trip or let it grow. If you are packing a trimmer, a clean shape from us gives you lines to follow. If you are not, ask us to leave it slightly longer and fuller, so it grows into a beard rather than out of one.

A Haircut + Beard handles both in one visit. Mark Yousif leans toward fade-into-beard blends and razor lineups; Marcel Shabo leans toward low tapers and detailing, a good fit for a cut that has to last.

Coming home: book the return cut before you land

The easiest way to get back to normal after a long trip is to book the next cut before you fly home. Booksy works from anywhere, so you can reserve an evening slot for the day after you land and pick the barber you saw before.

If the trip ran long and the cut has lost its shape, tell us in the consultation how long it has been. Growing it back into shape sometimes takes a slightly different approach than a routine trim. For how quickly hair returns, see how fast hair grows.

Haircut before a trip from Pearson: common questions

Can I get a cut on my way to the airport?

Only if you leave plenty of margin. The drive is about 17 minutes in light traffic, but rush hour and airport check-in times make a same-day cut risky before an early evening flight.

Should I get a skin fade before a two-week holiday?

It will show a clear regrowth line by the second week. A low taper or a lower fade usually looks better for longer.

Do you cut people who work at or near the airport?

Yes. If you work in the offices east of the 403, an evening slot on the way home is easy to fit in; our page on a barber near Airport Corporate Centre has more.

What if I land late and want a cut the next day?

Check Booksy for same-day openings or text us the morning after you land.
