Bald Fade, Front View: The Transition and the Lineup

Short answer: A bald fade takes the sides and back down to completely bare skin and blends up into the hair above. In this Mark Yousif result the bare skin runs from the neck past the temple, the blend reaches a very short crop near the top of the head, and the front edge is lined straight with a softly rounded temple corner. It suits smooth head shapes and anyone who wants maximum contrast.

About the name and the angle

The gallery calls this the front view, but the photo is a right-side profile. What it shows best from the front half of the head is the lineup: where the forehead edge turns into the temple and meets the bald fade.

That front corner is where a bald fade most often goes wrong, because the bare skin and the hairline meet with no hair in between to soften a mistake.

The transition from skin to hair

The skin is bare from the neck and around the ear up past the temple. Above that, the shadow builds gradually through a band of stubble-length hair to the short crop on top, with no visible lines where the guards change.

The blend sits high and is narrow, so the contrast is strong. This is what separates a bald fade from a softer skin fade that starts lower; our bald fade vs skin fade comparison shows the difference.

The lineup at the front

The front edge is cut in a straight line across the forehead, and the temple corner is rounded slightly rather than squared. A rounded corner looks softer on a very short cut and grows out with less of a visible step.

The beard is visible too, full and grey-flecked at the chin, but on this page the focus is the head. Our shape up guide explains how lineups follow the natural hairline.

How a bald fade like this is taken to skin

Getting to truly bare skin usually takes a foil shaver or a zero-gapped trimmer after the clipper work, because even the shortest clipper leaves a shadow.

  1. Cut the top to a short, even length.
  2. Set a high guideline near the curve of the head.
  3. Clipper the sides short, then finish to bare skin with a foil shaver.
  4. Blend the band between skin and crop with short, controlled passes.
  5. Line the forehead and round the temple with a trimmer.

Who a bald fade suits and the upkeep

It suits smooth, even head shapes, since there is no hair to hide bumps, and anyone who likes a sharp, high-contrast finish. If you have sensitive skin, ask for a very short guard at the bottom instead of bare skin.

Bald skin starts showing stubble within days, so most people return every 1 to 2 weeks. Our bald fade guide goes into head shapes and heights in more depth.

Bald fade, front view: common questions

What is the difference between a bald fade and a skin fade?

Many barbers use the names interchangeably. When they differ, a bald fade usually means bare skin taken higher, with a sharper contrast.

Can I book a bald fade with Mark in Mississauga?

Yes. Pick Mark on Booksy; the bald fade page for Mississauga covers what to expect.

Is a bald fade bad for sensitive skin?

Taking skin fully bare can cause redness or bumps for some people; a very short guard instead of a shaver is gentler. See a dermatologist if irritation keeps coming back.
