Number 3 Haircut in Mississauga: Soft, Short and Easy to Book

Short answer: Markcutit cuts number 3 haircuts at Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga; book Haircut Only on Booksy. A 3 guard leaves about 10 mm, short and soft with little scalp showing on most hair. Wear it all over, or as the side length under a longer top with a low taper at the nape, a finish Marcel Shabo leans toward. Rebook every three to four weeks.

A 3 all over, or a 3 on the sides?

A number 3 can mean two different cuts, so say which at the consultation. A 3 all over is a soft, even buzz; a 3 on the sides with scissor length on top is a short, conventional cut that happens to use that guard.

The all-over version suits dense hair and a round, even head shape. The sides-only version suits almost anyone and is what most people mean when they say "a 3 on the sides". Our number 3 haircut guide goes deeper into how the length looks on different hair.

Hair colour changes the picture too. On dark, dense hair a 3 reads as solid colour, while on blond or grey hair more scalp shows through, so light-haired clients sometimes prefer a 4 for the same effect.

A sensible first step down from longer hair

If you have never had a clipper cut, a 3 is a comfortable first try. At about 10 mm it covers the scalp on most hair, feels soft rather than bristly and still looks like a haircut rather than a buzz.

Start there and go down a guard in the same appointment if it feels too long; the reverse is not possible. Our answer on which number haircut to get walks through the whole range if you are still deciding.

The taper is what makes a 3 look finished

A 3 left straight down to the neckline looks home-clippered within a week, so we taper it shorter at the nape and around the ears. That low taper, graded down through a 2 and a 1, is the detail Marcel Shabo leans toward and the reason he is a natural choice for this cut.

Mark Yousif cuts it just as happily, and if you want the bottom taken to skin under the 3, his leaning toward skin fades makes him the better fit. Either way, a razor lineup finishes the edges. See our taper fades service for examples.

When a 3 is ready for a rebook

Plan on every three to four weeks, with the taper setting the pace rather than the 3 itself. The length on top of a 3 stays presentable for a month; the neat grading at the nape and ears is what drifts.

  • Week one: settled and soft, the best the cut will look.
  • Week two: the taper at the nape is filling in, but still tidy.
  • Week three: the ears are fuzzy and the neckline has lost its shape. Time to book.
  • Week four onward: it reads closer to a 4 or 5 and no longer looks deliberate.

Why a 3 works through a Mississauga winter

A 3 is a practical cold-weather length, with enough hair to take the chill off under a toque but short enough to recover quickly when the hat comes off. Hat hair on a 3 usually sorts itself out with damp fingers.

It is also forgiving if a busy December stretches your visits. We are open 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM through the holiday season, Sundays included, and same-day openings come up often.

Number 3 haircut in Mississauga: common questions

Lever open or closed on a 3?

Closed gives a true 10 mm or so; open adds about a millimetre and softens it slightly. Say which you had last time if you liked it.

Is a 3 long enough for a side part?

Not really. A visible part needs roughly a 6 guard or scissor length on top, so ask for a 3 on the sides only if you want to part it.

What is the difference between a 3 and a 4?

About 3 mm. A 4 lies down and looks fuller, while a 3 still stands up a little; our number 4 haircut page covers the longer option.
