A chin strap starts at the sideburns, so how it meets your haircut matters as much as the strap itself. If you wear a fade or taper, book Haircut + Beard and we blend the fade down through the sideburn into the strap with no visible break.

That blend is a leaning of Mark Yousif, who works on fade-into-beard transitions and razor lineups most. If your hair is longer over the ears, Beard Only + Lineup is enough; we simply end the strap cleanly at the sideburn.

Agreeing the width before anything is shaved

We set the width with you watching in the mirror, tracing the top edge with a trimmer before the cheeks are shaved. A few millimetres change the whole character of the style, and it is easy to go narrower later but slow to go wider.

Height matters as much as width. Placed right on the jawbone, the strap sharpens the jaw from the front; dropped a few millimetres below it, it adds definition to a softer jaw without looking like it is slipping down the neck.

Sensitive necks and the lower edge

Most irritation with a chin strap happens along the lower edge, where the neck is shaved close under the jaw. Curly and coarse hair is the most likely to curl back into the skin there.

Why the strap drifts and what a reset fixes

Almost every home-kept chin strap drifts in one of three ways, and a reset every two to three weeks puts it back. Knowing which way yours tends to go helps you avoid it.

• It narrows: shaving the cheek side a little closer each morning slowly eats into the top edge.
• It tilts: one side sits higher because you hold the razor differently on each side.
• It slides down: the lower edge creeps under the jaw, and from the front the strap starts to vanish.

A sharp strap before a night out

A chin strap looks its best in the first few days after a reset, so book close to the event you care about. We are open until 9 PM every day, which leaves room for an evening visit before a Friday or Saturday night.

If you are coming for a wedding or a party with a date on it, a day or two ahead is ideal; the freshly razored neck has time to calm down.
