How Early to Arrive for a Barber Appointment (and What to Do If Late)

Short answer: Aim to arrive about five to ten minutes before your barber appointment. That gives you time to park, take off your coat and hat, and be in the chair on the minute, which keeps the whole day on schedule. If you are going to be late, call or text the shop before your start time so the barber can adjust the plan.

Five to ten minutes early is the sweet spot

Five to ten minutes gives you enough slack for traffic and parking without leaving you waiting long. In a booked studio the chair is usually occupied until just before your time, so arriving thirty minutes early mostly means sitting.

Those few minutes are not wasted. You can hang up a winter jacket, take off a toque, put your phone on silent and pull up the reference photo you want to show. When your barber calls you over, the consultation starts straight away.

First visit to a new shop? Add a few more minutes. Finding the right building and the right door for the first time is the most common reason new clients arrive flustered, especially in winter traffic. Our visit page has the address and directions you can open on your phone before you leave.

Why punctuality matters more in a booked studio

In an appointment-based barbershop each slot is sized to the service booked, so every late start eats into the time set aside for your cut or pushes back the next client. A barber can absorb a couple of minutes, but ten or fifteen changes what is possible.

The service you booked sets how much time is reserved, whether it is a Haircut Only, a Haircut + Beard or a quick Nose Wax. The length for each is shown on Booksy when you book, and our guide to how long a haircut takes explains why a fade needs more time than a clipper cut.

At Markcutit we book through Booksy, so the next client is often already on their way when you sit down. Arriving a few minutes early is the simplest way to get the full, unhurried version of your service.

What to do if you are running late

Contact the shop before your appointment time, not after it. A quick message gives your barber options that disappear once the slot has started.

  1. As soon as you know you will be late, call or text the shop with a realistic arrival time. At Markcutit that is (647) 221-9795.
  2. Ask whether it still makes sense to come in for the full service, or whether a shorter version or a new time is better.
  3. If the slot no longer works, reschedule in Booksy or by call or text so the time can go to someone else.
  4. When you arrive, skip the long apology and go straight into the consultation. That gives the cut the most time.

Small habits that make the appointment smoother

A few things you do before you walk in save minutes in the chair.

  • Come with your hair as you normally wear it so the barber sees your real parting and texture. Our page on whether to wash your hair before a haircut covers product and washing.
  • Have one or two photos ready rather than scrolling through dozens at the chair.
  • In winter, give yourself an extra minute to shake off snow and take off layers so you are not rushed.
  • Know which service you booked. If you want to add beard work or waxing, mention it on arrival so your barber can see if the schedule allows.

If you need to cancel instead

Cancel or reschedule as early as possible, either in Booksy or by calling or texting. Even a few hours of notice often means someone waiting for a same-day opening gets your chair.

Life happens, and nobody expects perfection. What barbers remember is whether you let them know. Clients who communicate early tend to find it much easier to get a good slot next time.

If you already know on the day before that the time will not work, a text the night before is ideal. Moving your appointment is always better than a no-show, and it keeps the relationship with your barber easy.

How early to arrive for a barber appointment: common questions

Is it rude to show up very early to a barber?

Not rude, but you will likely wait, and you may crowd a small waiting area. Five to ten minutes is plenty.

Will the barber start early if the chair is free?

Sometimes, if the previous client finished ahead of time. Do not count on it, and never assume an earlier start when you plan your day.

How late is too late for a haircut appointment?

It depends on the service and the day's bookings, which is why calling or texting ahead matters. Let us know and we will tell you honestly what we can still do.

Do I need to check in when I arrive?

Just let your barber know you are there. Your booking is already in the schedule, so there is nothing else to fill in. Directions are on our visit page.
